Vijayalakshmi Natural farms coordinating a forest honey gathering effort along with the Kurumba tribes based in Nilgiris for this harvesting season starting early May till July. As you may be aware the Nilgiri Biosphere has immense variety of Flora and has gained the UN heritage status for its unique micro-climate and is host to the rarest of the rare medicinal herbs.
There are 3 broad variety of honey that is gathered, based on the specific Bee Species
- Dhodda Jenu (Badaga) / Malai Thaen (Tamil) - Means big bee honey
- Kunna Jenu (Badaga) / Adukku Thaen (Tamil) - Means small bee honey
- Kol Jenu (Badaga) /Kombu Thaen (Tamil) - Means stick/branch bee honey.
In addition all these types can have various flavours depending on the specific flower type the bee has gathered its nectar (An individual hive will have honey from only a specific wild flower). This will be identified, gathered and segregated only during the harvest. Vijayalakshmi Natural farms will label the individual package with the specific flower it has been gathered.
